Chandelier LOLER Inspections, Load Testing & Certification.
Chandelier Group has an impeccable safety record for over 40 years.
At the time of installation it is imperative for any fitting or installation to be load tested and certificated or after changing of design loading. In England it is a requirement under The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulation 1998 (LOLER) for lifting and static equipment to have a thorough examination and to be load tested by a competent person before it is put into service.
This applies to static and winching systems. LOLER is supported by the ‘Safe use of lifting equipment Approved Code of Practice’ from the HSE. While the ACOP is not law, this has been produced under section 16 of the Health and Safety at Work Act. (HSW Act) has special status.
This supports not only LOLER but also the general provisions of section 2 of the HSW Act and other regulations, including the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations and PUWER, in relation to lifting equipment and lifting operations.
Proof load testing is used to confirm the fixing is fit for purpose.
When the ultimate strength of the material is known, when the load is entirely a steady one (a chandelier or special fitting) of a known value, a factor of safety should be adopted is 3.
Chandelier Group load test to a safety factor of 3:1. All specialised calibrated load testing equipment is supplied by the Chandelier Group. Individual Test Certificates and a report of thorough examination are provided for each location.
Making Latest Status Visible
Chandelier Group install an electronically chipped tagging system to each location after a successful load test. The electronic tag is located on the ring ceiling side so it is clearly visible and accessible. The load test is recorded via the electronic tagging system and downloaded to our engineer’s handheld computer on-site.
The handheld computer guides our engineer through the work order providing the location of each asset to perform a task on. Each day the load test information is downloaded to our main file server to compile and review timely and accurate reports from the system. This facilitates standardisation of best working practice and company reporting for records and audits.
For annual checks and maintenance, the electronic tag chip system saves a great deal of time in locating each location. Most importantly, this ensures the correct checks for each suspension point are carried out every time, on time.
Inspection Management System
Chandelier Group provide an impartial ‘Thorough Examination’ service to ensure all chandelier static suspension fixings and winching systems (manual and electric) continue to provide a safe and trouble free performance over their expected life and to ensure you comply with all the requirements of legislation under LOLER and PUWER 1998.
To alleviate timing concerns we will inform you when your next examination is due to ensure you never exceed the due date for inspections. Inspections should be on an annual basis. Winching cables should be replaced every five years together with new cable certification. New cable is required to be installed , irrespective of condition of the wire rope. It is a requirement all fixings should be load tested within a five year period at this time.
Our electronically chipped tagging system to each location, allows us minimises client disruption as this system prevents the removal of each chandelier. On successful inspection of each location the information is independently recorded to the engineer’s handheld computer which is downloaded to a file server to compile and review timely and accurate reports. This facilitates standardisation of best working practice and company reporting for records and audits.
Hazards realistically persist 24/7 and early investigation by the above system can prevent more serious complications.
We encourage all our clients, to adopt a good safety chandelier management of professional annual inspections.
