Winches

Hand Operated Winches

The location in which a chandelier or heavy fitting is to be installed must first be surveyed for safety and ease of maintaining the fitting for future servicing. There are many ways in which this fixing can be carried out and we have covered some of these in our pages under the category of Chandelier Installation and Steel Plates.

We are also suppliers and installers of specialist winching equipment. At the time of survey, the loading of the chandelier would be calculated to a minimum 4:1 safety factor.

Operation.

Turn the winch handle a half revolution clockwise, this will slightly lift the light fitting in order to disengage the locking mechanism.

Now Start turning the winch handle anti-clockwise and the fitting will begin to lower. At the same time the electrical contacts will be automatically disconnected. There are no live cables travelling down, so the fitting can now be lowered to the desired height, safely and quickly.

When the cleaning and maintenance is complete, the fitting can be returned to its operating position by turning the winch handle clockwise. As the contact suspension unit nears its home and locked position, the built in tracking guide ensures the correct mechanical location of the unit and that positive electrical contact is made. (As you would expect, a leading earth/ground is incorporated for total safety).

Now that the unit is in the home and locked position all electrical contacts have been made, and the weight of the fitting has been transferred back to the locking mechanism, so there is no tension on the lowering or raising cable or winch, until the fitting is lowered again.

When in its locked position, the lowering and raising cable now becomes the back-up secondary safety system.

Its all been done - Safely - Efficiently - Cost Effectively.
